Listening to railways

We pioneer the use of fiber optic vibration sensing to deliver railway insights across multiple disciplines. We monitor track condition, detect trespass and cable security events, and alert operators to natural hazards such as landslides or rock falls.

We create a digital twin / SonicTwin® of entire rail routes, to deliver unparalleled historical, actual and predictive railway information. Using standard, often pre-existing, fiber optic cables we enable railways to make better decisions.

In an age of AI-generated content, it's easy, and indeed sensible, to be sceptical viewing marketing claims.

When artificial intelligence (AI) can generate seemingly realistic content, it's more important than ever to see real-world / real-rail examples of how technologies actually work. This is especially true for complex technologies like Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), which we use to monitor railway infrastructure.

To help bridge this widening AI-fuelled credibility and confidence chasm, we have launched a new micro-website, info.sensonic.com, to showcase videos of real railways from around the world using DAS.

These aren’t glossy marketing productions; they are real-life tests, trials and demonstrations carried out on railways around the world to show the real-life capabilities of the technology we deliver.

We’ll freely admit often the camerawork isn’t perfect, but the content is real. These videos are shot by our engineers and scientists out in the field on railways around the world, where we employ them for their technical skills not their videography ones!

What you'll find on info.sensonic.com

The microsite showcases Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) in action covering a range of topics. We have arranged the content into 4 main sections replicating the technology applications which are available now:

  • Security Surveillance
  • Landslide and Rockfall
  • Track Condition Monitoring
  • Catenary Flashover Location

We have also included supporting information about the technology and finally, a preview on some of the other applications we are developing or assessing too.

Why visit and watch?

  • See with your own eyes what the DAS technology makes possible
  • Get a better understanding of DAS capabilities and limitations
  • See DAS in action in a rail environment like yours
  • Get inspired as to what problems DAS may help to solve
